Materials: Quilted Maple, Curly Maple, Poplar
Dimenions: 27″ High, 15″ Wide, 1″ Deep
The scrollwork on this mirror is a classic motif of the Chippendale period of furniture. Veneered with quilted maple, the scrolls are complemented by the curly maple molding applied to the mirror frame. Maple is a wood species with many different types of figures, or grain patterns that affect appearance.
A dye was used as the colorant for this piece, to enhance the figure of the wood. Multiple coats of shellac were added as a sealer and topcoat, followed by a hand-applied coat of wax to produce the desired sheen.
